In writing to the Church in Ephesus, the Apostle Paul states clearly that the vocation of every pastor is to equip believers for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12). For many years I focused my attention on the structures and processes churches need to manage volunteer ministry. Out of that experience, I’ve come to understand that there is a need that supercedes that of good organization. What must be cultivated within the body of Christ is the deep love for Jesus that elicits a passion to follow His example of sacrifical service (John 13:15). I believe this is the key to successfully equipping the saints for ministry!
My desire as a pastor and a spiritual director is to come alongside those who seek a deeper communion with God, who want to know more intimately his mercy and grace and faithful love for all whom he has created, and then to make a return of that love by learning to abide in Jesus day by day. It’s an adventure, and the journey of a lifetime!
