The Mark of a Timothy

…For I have no one like [Timothy], who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. -Phil 2:20-21

What is my my interest? Is it simply accomplishing the ministry task?

How is my interest reflected in my interactions with my team? with those I lead? with those to whom I minister?

What was Jesus’ interest? How was that reflected in his ministry with the apostles? with the woman who had the bleeding condition? with the blind man by the side of the road?

I read somewhere many years ago that if God was only interested in getting the job done, he would send his angels to do it. They would do it better … and get it done right the first time!

But God sends me. And you.

As a serving leader, I must align my interest with the interest of Jesus, first and foremost. I must take a genuine interest in the welfare–the spiritual formation–of those to whom and with whom I minister.

This is the mark of a Timothy.
